    2007 smart key programming

Does anyone know how to program the smart key? I bought an extra one and don't want to pay the dealer to program it.
    thanks.

    Re: 2007 smart key programming

If it it is anything like the B5 one then I don't think it can be done.
My Dealer quoted me £140 to supply and programme ALL the keys.

The reason being that the computer(ECU) in the car, that controls the Engine Management System(EMS) and security etc it is all coded to interact with each other, so in theory it is impossible to start the vehicle without the key.

The software codes for EACH car are kept in a well guarded memory at VW Germany. The Dealer has to access this via VW Milton Keynes, who in turn have to access the code from VW Germany.

Why Milton Keynes can't store these codes, I don't know, but that's how it is

How much have you been quoted anyway ? and how do bailiffs re-possess cars without the keys ?

    Re: 2007 smart key programming

I just got a quote from my dealer as we recently lost our spare set -

" ...The main key is $150.00 plus the plastic emergency key that fits inside is $66.00 then programming the new key is $42.50 so the total would be $258.50 plus tax.The keys have to be paid for before orderind as they only work your car..." CDN $$$

Now, I've seen the main key on Ebay for a fraction of the cost (although the emergency key has already been cut) Should I be able to bring that into the dealer and have them program it without any problem? And if it's do-able, can I assume a key that is listed for an 07 passat will work for an 08?

I know I'm probably too late to make difference, but I just joined the group. About 3 months ago we got a letter in the mail from VW that a class action suite was settled about the keyless entry. I dont have all the particulars but I beleive it had to allow locksmiths the ability to sell you keys too and might be able to help with the programming much cheaper.
