I know I'm really lazy about this.... but I was just wondering if anyone has any pictures of Magny Cours with the center caps removed (and on the car). I was curious to see what they'd look like.
Reason I ask is I was thinking about removing them, because Pep Boys (PLEASE don't ask why I went there) scratched 'em up and I was thinking about removing them completely. I'm thinking maybe it'll look good, and might even help reduce a tiny bit of weight too, lol...

Why dont you go outside and remove the center caps, with the tool that is in your trunk and take some pics and post them up?

'Cause I'm at work right now, lol. I can't find my digital camera's charger anywhere in my apartment and it's pissing me off. I might take a crappy cell phone pic though and post it eventually. But I probably won't have time to do it until sometime this weekend since I work late.
I was just hoping someone might have some pics handy. I Google and forum searched the entire interwebz and nothing turned up. GRrrrrr...

you could buy a new cap for like $11 or so at the stealership i think
do magny cours fit better on 16 or 17" tires? reason i ask, is that i wanted the magny cours over the steelies, but since the dealer could only find the exact bunny i wanted in chattanooga and it had steelies they actually put the smoked karthoums on 17", but only charged for the magny's.
Jetta SE (VI) - Platinum Gray Metallic
I've completely given up on salvaging my Magny Cours. I took a closer look at the wheels today and ALL of them have chips and pits along the edges and center caps (not the caps themselves, but ON the wheel). Initially they were hidden by some goo crap they smeared all over the tires and rims. Now they're clearly visible, like they were laid face down against asphalt.
They also refused to use the cap removal tool I GAVE them. They claimed they wouldn't need it. HAH!!! To make matters worse they also added a ton of lead weight sticker strips, I guess what they call a piss poor excuse of balancing tires. They didn't mention anything about balancing tires and a bunch of other surcharges they slapped on to my receipt. Abso-f'in-lutely ridiculous.
At this point I'm just thinking about going with naked steelies (Does VW sell 'em in 16's?). I know it's going to reduce my resale value and I know I'm going to get some loss in handling, buuuuut at least I'll have peace of mind that they're cheap, virtually indestructible, and I won't give a crap if they get scuffed. There's already a ton of potholes in my area, so I guess it was only a matter of time before something like this would happen.
Realistically I doubt I'm ever going to be fully compensated for the price of new wheels. At the very most they might give me a hundred bucks back off my purchase of the tires and that's it. This whole experience with Pep Boys was terrible. I feel sick to my stomach now because I KNEW I was making a mistake by going to them. BUT no dealerships were open on the Fourth of July and I needed new tires ASAP.
And just to vent some more... my long-term gf recently broke up with me (whom I awkwardly have to live with until end of September), my dad's going to be losing his job in January (mom doesn't work), I paid a crapload on getting 1 root canal and 3 fillings done by my dentist (no pain during a routine checkup, but I guess they decided to rape my wallet), and there's a high chance I'll have to move back into my parents' house 'cause I'm nearly broke from paying for all this crap (on top of car payments, toll fees, cellphone bills, and rent).
It's doubly embarrassing 'cause I'm 27 and should have my s*** together by now. 2009 has been the BEST YEAR SO FAR!!! YEAH!!! F' MY LIFE!!!![]()

Fudge man that sucks pretty bad. Is there any way you can salvage the relationship or is it gone? Do you guys have to share a room?
Can you just paint over the wheels. Give them a good sanding and paint over them with some auto paint? I don't know how bad your wheels are?
Good luck with you situation. There is nothing wrong with living with your parents, you gotta do what you gotta do. We all understand you gotta make choices right now with the sh!!ty economy.
2008 SG Rabbit 4 Door. 5spd. Monsters. 35% tint all around. 17" VW Goals. Koni FSD struts with Neuspeed springs. Eurojet Catback. Carbonio CAI. ECS Dogbone Mount. GTI Edition 30 Steering Wheel and E-brake boot.
It wasn't on really bad terms or anything. We're not rippin' each others heads off. We're sharing a single bedroom apartment right now, and the lease will be up at the end of September. It's just been awkward. One day you act all lovey dovey, and the next it all changes. Your world just turns upside-down and all your plans go to hell.
Honestly I don't know what happened. She does this on and off thing where it doesn't feel like something is right. I've tried just about everything humanly possible to be the best guy possible. Guess it wasn't enough. Um yeah... try to figure that one out. I'm convinced 90% of girls are completely indecisive and never know what they really want. It's like they get bored and decide to randomly complicate things. Oh well.
This is the girlfriend who inspired me to get my Rabbit by the way. She has a Tornado Red '07. I fell in love with that car along with her, when we both first met... lol. Anyway on the plus side I won't have to take the turnpike (I pay 92 bucks in toll fees monthly) when I do move back home. I just want to pay for the car ASAP ($3k left) and probably get the Driver Gear Springs, and then start saving up for a place.
That's a possibility. I'll look into that. If I can find my digital camera charger I'll take some pics. It's probably not as bad as it sounds. Basically the edges of my wheels and the seam along the center cap is packed with tiny little pits and chips. It's just a sickening feeling when you've battled through potholes and avoided curb rashing your wheels for a full year... only to have one stupid visit to Pep Boys mess everything up.Can you just paint over the wheels. Give them a good sanding and paint over them with some auto paint? I don't know how bad your wheels are?
Honestly I don't think I'd mind getting steel wheels. When I popped my trunk open to get my wheel lock, I glanced at my spare tire and thought it looked kind of cool. I probably sound retarded, but hey it'll be a fresh look for my Rabbit. And they're cheap and easily replaceable too. So why the hell not?
Thanks. I know that there are other people out there that are probably suffering worse than me during these times. People who don't even have the option of falling back on relatives for financial help. So I guess things can be worse. I just hope this is the last bit of bull**** I have to deal with for 2009. I think I've had enough at this point.... lol.Good luck with you situation. There is nothing wrong with living with your parents, you gotta do what you gotta do. We all understand you gotta make choices right now with the sh!!ty economy.

Try using some filler primer and paint over. Problem solved. Well... at least one problem. Good luck.

If you don't want to waste a lot of money you can just rattle can your wheels if it really bothers you. I just painted my wheels a couple weekends ago and it cost about 10 bucks. Pretty cheap to fix your wheels.
That still sucks tho about the relationship. Sometimes things just drift apart. I've been in your situation before and it sucks. People always said there are more fish in the sea but inside I wanted to punch them in the face for saying that.
I just found someway to vent myself. I worked out and ran and got into good shape. Really made me feel better too.
Anyone know any good sites for steel wheels that would fit our Rabbit? Preferably 16", but I guess 15" is okay too. I thought these looked awesome. But they're obviously not going to fit a Rabbit. I'm even thinking orange powder coated steel wheels or something. Preferably pre-painted by a professional, lol. Something about gray and orange I like...I'm also a huge fan of cop car steelies. I guess they're also comparable to muscle car steelies. Anything but boring regular spare tire steelies, basically.

UPDATE:
I had an EPIC FAIL moment today. The manager at Pep Boys checked my wheels out and saw the pits and scratches on 'em. He took his fingernail and scratched it right off after a few rubs. I guess he did it more aggressively, because it didn't budge when I tried earlier. So yeah, apparently it was the goo crap they use to install tires that had dried up and cemented.
AND In my defense the center caps were in fact scratched up along the emblem, from them trying to pry it off without the tool I tried to give them. He did admit fault to that and said he'd compensate me the cost of new center caps from a VW dealership.
I don't even know if they're worth it. Caps on alloy wheels feel just as cheap as putting hub caps on steelies. So I may just call it a day and remove 'em. But if they look awkward and ugly, I'll probably go with the whole compensation thing. Hopefully the caps aren't ridiculously expensive and the manager won't back out on the compensation deal.

Well finally some good news. It happens to everybody, I went to my dealer cause I thought I had a bad rear shock, and it was my aftermarket RSB making the noise. Nut on end link was loose. Thats what I get for letting my friend do it. Called the service manager and told him how sorry I was for wasting their time. He was cool about it no charge.

I took a cap off this morning aaand I can see why nobody has taken a picture of them. I was hoping it would be a smooth, crater shaped hole. But no, there's a hub of notches and stamped metal printing that pops out from the center of the wheel. Basically it's a mess in there.
Soooo I've decided to get a set of replacements. Pep Boys gave me the go ahead to buy the caps from VW, which BTW COST $42 EACH FROM THE DEALERSHIP!!!! Quite honestly I was shocked they'd cover that expense. I was really getting ready to put up a fight with it.
But I have to give it to VW, that despite being made out of plastic those caps are pretty hard to remove and snap back in snugly, rather than a cheap set of hub caps on steelies.
I'll snap a cell phone picture when I remove 'em again, if anyone is curious. It's really nothing special. Believe me, you don't want those caps off...![]()

Pics, as promised. Quality is extremely crappy because these were taken on my phone (still can't find my digital camera charger). But I figured it was better than nothing.
First pic is the original center caps. You can't really see it from this extremely high quality image, but they tried to pry the center cap off between the emblem and the outer ring. All four of my center caps had these deep pry marks along that faux seam. <3 Pep Boys!
Second pic is how the new caps look from the back. You can see how it attaches on etc.
Third and fourth pics are the Magny Cours without the center caps. You can't really see it here, but there's stamped lettering for something along the inside. And a bunch of asymmetrical notches to secure the center caps in place. Like I said, not very pretty...
Last pic is a picture of my bunneh next to 2 other bunnehs in the grass. There are tons of rabbits along the back woods of my work place. Oddly enough they prefer to hang around my Rabbit.
The original box these came in say "MADE IN SPAIN" in bold print. And it also has the SEAT and Skoda logos on it too. Thought that was pretty cool. What's weird though was that I had to order these center caps as an accessory. I guess they don't original come with the Magny Cours? The parts department guy had to really dig around for 'em. So bottom line... TAKE CARE OF YOUR CAPS if you have a set of Magny Cours. Unless you feel like paying $165 to have a set of 4 shipped to the US.
