He just pointed out his dads first gen minis only has 163 hp and less torque. I always thought they had more?

Sounds like a pretty close race. I think with his lighter weight and hp he will be able to accelerate faster from 0-60, but with a freeway dig I think you will be closer as you found out.

Must have been a pretty good race tho.

Yeha. Both manual, he is the turbo'd cooper s.

He is also new to manual. When i drove that mini it pulled pretty hard, but i had a hard time judging my speed since the speedo is in a wierd spot :P

where did you guys find the info that says the mini has 200hp. first gen supercharged 168hp and second gen turbo 172hp, the only one is the Special edition John Cooper Works package 208hp,

if you do find real proof, tell me the year they made it, i will buy it!!!

    JCW package is a 40,000$CAD +

Just wondering if anyone had any input or experience on racing a mini??

The mods i have on my car are: custom magnaflow cat bak, and carbonio cai..
in a straight line and on a road course, the mini would win. given equal drivers...

And you have the turbo MINI. Puts out a bit more boost with a little less belt usage. haha

Suspension, intake and exhaust is supposedly much better on the new ones as well.

The 2003 Mini Cooper S has 163hp and 155lb/ft tq. However, it is almost 500 pounds lighter, so it should take a stock rabbit without an issue. Against a modified rabbit, it should come down to more of a drivers race.

Yeah, I agree with this being a drivers race...I don't think a Rabbit auto could take it though...Only chance would be a manual Rabbit...Anyhow, no matter what the Cooper can do, it looks like a "Dirt Devil" on wheels and does not have the alure of a sport hartchback...I wonder how ofter you have to change the dust bag on them...Does anyone know if they are wet/dry vacs, or have retractable power cords???? How often do you have to rotate the bristles...LOL...jk...

I've driven both. The Mini is MUCH quicker. The only way you'd have a chance with equal drivers is if you're solo and he's carrying 3 passengers- all NFL linemen, squeezed in with a shoehorn.

So why do I have a Rabbit and not a Mini? Solidity, reliability, still a fun to drive little go-kart.

Like I said, my dad owns an S. It feels quicker, because it's lighter, and it's a 6 speed with higher gear ratios. The RPM's fly up really fast, but in reality, the Rabbit can keep up pretty well, even with equal amount of passengers.

Re: Rabbit vs. Mini Type S

I can actually answer this question with some validity. My parents have a Mini Clubman S and I drive an 07 Rabbit with a carbonio CAI. After driving both at this point almost equally, the MINI is quite a bit faster/ more responsive. plus its a Clubman (the extended version of the standard MINI) so i can totally vouch that the mini S is indeed faster than the rabbit. unfortunately... however it would be a fun race to be a part of and or witness.

The 2008 rabbit is heavy... But on the take off in sport mode, rabbit wins if you can drive...

*I think I would win at launch vs mini s cuz of engine mount and stuff like that.
Like I said... Only if you can drive.... 2008 rabbit, bigger engine, basicly same hp.... I'd take the rabbit just because it's more stable...

Re: Rabbit vs. Mini Type S

the mini is lighter but not 500 pounds. the mini-s is 2634 and the rabbit is 2975 curb weight. thats a 341 pound difference mini-s has 172hp and 177lbp-ft of torque between 1600-5000rpm. rabbit (2008 and up) are 170hp and 177lbp-ft at 4250rpm. provided the mini driver doesn't suck he should be able to squeak by a rabbit. (this is assuming both are stick) but rabbit should have a fighting chance it shouldn't be a complete stomp fest

Re: Rabbit vs. Mini Type S

I've killed minis before, and ran with a few mini S. Should be no problem to smoke a base mini.
