    Frozen Rabbit

So my 00 VW bug 2.0 got totalled at the end of august, and I got these two Rabbits from rehoboth with the insurance money. I've had some issues with them, and had to drop a new engine in one of them cause it seized, but now one is running and one is not. For now, until springtime, I think I am just going to focus on improving the one that is running. But the major problem right now is the only real source of heat in the car is my -20 rated sleeping bag, which I have to insulate myself/my girlfriend with while driving. I had the heater core replaced, but the climate controls on the dash do not function. There is supposed to be a switch that flips up and down to turn the blower on and off but there was never one since I got the car, though there was one on the second car, which I took out to try and fix the first. I took off the little pocket holder thing today under the climate controls and found the plug that is supposed to go on the back of the switch. The plastic looked a little broken, and I tried it, but got nothing. I don't know if it's the switch, the plug or a fuse or what, but I've got pictures. The wires that push and pull to change the circulation, & vent/defrost are still connected except the hot/cold one is not. It is broken so that it will not stay in the little hole on the piece of plastic that moves to pull and push it, and the wire has duct tape all over the end instead of the regular black tubing. Cold is all the way in and hot is all the way out, so I took some pliers earlier and pulled it all the way out and it definitely feels as though it has made a difference and turned the heater on, though there is no air blowing out. It was 8 degrees this morning so I really need to get this fixed asap because I'm going to need my defrost at the very least. I have some pictures now, and will post more, but since I am at my girlfriends house now, because I don't have reliable internet access from my house, so I will post more asap. Thank you everyone,
    Nuggetts

Haha, no warranty, they are '84 and '83 and I got them from a private seller. Working on pictures as we speak.

    Ok a little pagination please.

The wire that opens your heater valve is broken. You will probably be best served by looking at ebay
    for a replacement control unit....

    Look under the hood.

To the left of the brake master cylinder is the heater valve attached to a hose coming out of the firewall.
If the valve finger is pointing away from the master cylinder then it is off.
Take the cable off and pull the lever all the way closest to the brake cylinder.... that will open the valve and allow
    heated coolant to flow.

Valves have known to break internally...

For the fan switch you could just buy a 3 or 4 position switch and wire it in place of your broken one.

You can test the blower by jumping the wires to each other one at a time by taking the switch off and jumpering the connector one pin at a time to each pin NOT TO GROUND to see if the fan ever kicks in, if it don't then look for a fuse
and rejumper if the fuse blows again then you are looking at a relay or a motor.

The switch applies 12V+ to the ballast resistor, and by finding the "hot" pin you can then jumper it to each other of the pins to get voltage to the fan....
What do Divorces, Great Coffee and Cars all have in common?
They all Start with good GROUNDS.
Replace all of them that you can, 99 percent of flakiness will disappear.

    92, 93 Cabriolet.... 89, and 90 are Deceased.
