How to bypass power steering MK4 TDI
Looking on advice on how to bypass the power steering on a MK4 TDI. I saw other threads on getting a smaller belt, but does the smaller belt need to be ribbed on both sides? And does it bypass the AC also? Or does it need removed? My problem is a leak in the power steering rack and putting pressure on the power steering pully so I am looking for a quick fix until I have money to replace the rack and pump. Thanks.
Re: How to bypass power steering MK4 TDI
Yes, smaller belt is all, but most of the time the part# reflects
bypassing the A/C, not P/S.
A leak won't put pressure on anything, you loose pressure with
leaks. If you're getting belt squeal when you turn the wheel,
that's not because of a leak, that's the pump itself, or the rack
is binding up putting the load (not pressure) on the P/S pump.
You can loop the P/S hoses, bypassing the rack all together. That means, out of
the pump, right back in, at 100% duty cycle though. SO, you need a
fluid in there that does not foam up.
