Misfuel in a 2006 Jetta TDI
Soooooo I accidentally filled my Jetta with regular fuel and drove it for about 5 miles. How screwed am I? Anybody know a good, honest diesel mechanic in the Oakland, Ca area? In my defense, I own two catering vans that I'm constantly filling with regular fuel and in the haze of a news years day hangover I just pulled up to the pump and filled my diesel with 87. My wife is not happy as it is her car. Help!
Re: Misfuel in a 2006 Jetta TDI
IF you already passed the gas into the motor, the damage is done...
If you had at least 5-gallons of diesel in the tank, well, you could be
okay, unless you ran it till it stopped due to the gasoline... Gas also
burns hotter than diesel..
You need to drain the tank, lines, fuel filter canister, EVERYTHING.
Most of the damage will be the high pressure fuel pump or injection pump... There
is no lubricant in gas... Diesel is an oil, it lubricates the fuel system and injectors..
GAS, will actually CLEAN it all out, including the cylinder walls, not good....
There is ALWAYS LUCK on your side, get all the GAS out, and
put diesel in, hope for the best. You can't fix what's not broke,
not yet, and you won't know till you're back on the road with
diesel in it, as to what's going to fail. Most people just get all
the gasoline out, and give it a whirl...
