Does the AC compressor turn on with defrost?

I just wanted to make sure that the AC compressor only comes on when the AC button and light are on. On my old Ford, when you selected the defroster, the AC compressor would automatically be engaged. Thanks,

I dont think it does. you can select it to come on or off by pushing the A/C button.

Doesn't matter weather you have it selected on or off, the AC compressor kicks on to dry the air in the system. I believe it is this way in most vehicles FWIW.

All of my other cars that did this turned on the indicator light for the AC when turning on the defroster. try turning it on the defroster and blast it on cold. If it gets really cold like AC cold then its automatically on.
