for a while now I've been noticing that my 2013 cc has been leaking. Every time I wash my car this thick black residue seems to find it's way back to the side skirts of my car. I checked underneath and it isn't leaking oil or gas, so my deduction is that it's coming from inside the doors. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm new to the car owner world and my goal is to be able to fix my own stuff (college hasn't left much room for me to throw service money around). Any advice helps, thanks!
upload a photograph.
what do you believe it to be? what does the residue smell like?

The vapor barrier is held in place by a black bead of adhesive, we call it dum-dum. If it gets hot
enough, it will droop, can melt a little, and can leak out the door... It has been pretty damn
hot the past few days, so...
A picture would be nice, but you can remove the door panel and take a look...
I'll upload a picture later today thanks guys
In the assembly of 'most' German cars, they inject a sealing wax in all the seams and creases, very high temperatures could let it get fluid enough to leak out of the car. Does this happen only in hot weather? Is it waxy? I'm a vendor at the BMW site, and I see this.
My 2013 CC does the same except mine is more of a honey color.
I just use a little WD40 to clean it off.

My wifes 2010 CC has the exact same issue. I also use a little WD 40 to clean it right off. Here in the rust belt of central PA I'm happy it's in the doors. Should act like a rust inhibitor. I wish I had a few gallons for all my panels on my other vehicles.
Funny thing is that older thread was started by CCDave and this one by David_CC - are you related??
