I've been looking at an older rabbit. I'm typically not too into the old school. (I like being spoiled when it comes to my cars: temp gauge, cd player, heated seats, etc) .. but I just can't walk away from this deal.

So in that case, I just wanted to know if anyone else rides old school, and where I should start with the modifications, and what my options are. Would definately love to slam some new wheels on it.

I'll see if I can get some pictures up.

THANX:D:

Definitely slammed on some nice wheels. What color is it?

If you're a real DIY type, you can custom paint it and make it look (almost) brand new :)

I do see some potential there. Wheels, suspension, and paint is all it would take for you to really be stylin'.

My B.. 4 door. That much cooler when you are a parent.

would like a paint job, wheels definately. Lowered. New headlights. Debating whether to keep the chrome or not. Maybe swap the seats. But DEFINATELY a paint job, first off and foremost.. that and a cd player. I checked the slot though where the tape player is, and an aftermarket cd player won't fit. ... hmph.

You'll have to gimme a ride in it once you get it :)

Whatcha got planned for it? I'd get that rust spot on the hood sanded down, sprayed over with some of that rust removal stuff, and get the car painted (DIY $50 paint job is great if you have the time and artistic ability)

haha.. you apparently haven't checked out my occupation/hobbies dj. I am an artist.

Er, I guess I never put it together haha. So it sounds like the $50 DIY paint job is right up your alley :D. You can even get creative and abstract :)

I do alot of tint graphics. My rabbit had metallic stars cut out of "striping" on the back. I loved it. They were A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

There's a link to the $50 Paint Job. The way it's written may be a little hard to follow, but you can google $50 paint job for lots of results.

I can't wait. Going to go talk to the owner today. Maybe I'll have a new car by the end of the day?

Have to make a checklist of everything that needs to be done to it, I don't think it's much, but it needs to be serviced, with an LOF, probably a tune-up as well. Not a problem, I'll just do it at the old shop where I used to work. F-R-E-E that spells free. .. "sings jingle" Not completely free, but doing the labor yourself saves $$.

Anyone know where I can find wheels?

LETS DO THIS!

And you're seriously not married or anything?

runawyrbt

NOPE!

I like it that way.

but it's true. You factor in a couple hours worth of labor and you're looking at anywhere between 50 - 100/hour. screw it. I was looking the other day and a tune-up for a 1998 Acura 2.5TL called for 3.9 hours. (no thanks)

So, do it yourself. I love working in the auto industry, but considering I was working at a mom and pops shop, just trying to make it, I can't really apply it anywhere.

Turning wrenches and getting greasy? No Problem!:whack:

That's pretty awesome :D.

If it really is an 85, then it may me a MkII. If that's the case, I have a service manual for it.

How long did you have your MkV?

runawyrbt

5 months. I'll check the vin, and let you know.

Sorry, sorry.. I lied. It's a 1984. I'm going to see if the guy will just part with it. I noticed today that the windshield has a crack in the upper left hand corner, and she'll definately need some wheels. ... (which was already noted), but they definately need to be done as well. One of the rims has a huge bend in it.. She needs serviced.. with fluids flushed, tune up. Clutch is still in pretty good shape. I just figure if the guy is going to let it sit and rot.. why not just give it away and make some use for it?

Should be calling me sometime after 5.

STOKED!

Sweet - 84 does indeed make it a Rabbit. Also means I don't have the service manual for it :).

You can get a patch kit for the windshield for now, wheels will have to be fixed somewhat quick, but shouldn't be too expensive for a nice set of 13"-14".

Could I throw 15s on it? Or would they start to look too big? Wheels need to go.

GAH! I hate fighting with people and trying to persuade them down.

Yeah, it's mine. Regardless. I haven't put the money on the table, but if he's not willing to part with it for a lesser price, then I'll just pay the full. No big deal. I'm excited about it. Time to start shopping for the accessories.

trying to figure out what all of my options are for the new rabbit.

Transmissions were always a optional request. I think that I had to pay 400 more for a 5 speed over the 4.

So unless you knew the original users mind set buying a used one is either a 4 or a 5.....

Is there an update on this? New pix?

I just saw an ad locally for an '85 GTI... red... 2-door. OMG it's adorable. haha The guy wants hardly anything for it and I could probably trade my truck and some cash... but why the heck do I want a fixer-upper? haha It needs a little work but apparently is road worthy.

I'd love to get a MkI/MkII for a project car. Strip out a lot of weight, you could have a 2000lb rocket. A MkI stripped out with a 1.8T swap would be crazy, crazy fast.

HoneyBun77
07-11-2008, 01:01 PM
He says this one has a 1.8 and a bunch of new parts that aren't installed... He did say the windshield is "cracked up" but intact (??) but otherwise the car is drivable.

"1.8L GREAT BODY! Neuspeed Suspension & Sway Bar, K&N Filter, NEW Spark plugs, Properly Timed, Wires, Rotor, Cherry bomb Exhaust!! Recent Oil Change New Tires.. CLEAN IN AND OUT!!! MAY NEED VALVE ADJUSTMENT BECAUSE OF BACK FIRE

have all parts.. the only parts that need to be attached is the side fender covers & the exhaust pipe needs re-hung that's it.. The windshield got (cracked up) but still in tact."

What's the worth on something like that? (The above quotes are from his ad and the email he sent back to my inquiry.) Apparently the "body is straight" (I assume he means the frame) and the title is clean.

I'm pretty sure my 84 would have looked like that 10 years ago. I've never seen one in that color with decent paint before...I think I could live with that. One day teh bunny will look like new again *dreams*
