: Decisions, decisions
quality_sound 11-01-2007, 10:02 PM Hey guys,
Been eying a Rabbit to replace the Si I got into (stupidly I admit :whack:) and get back into a Dub. So far I've gotten offers of $17274 OTD on a base S, 2-door, and offers of $17005 and $16334 from other dealers for an 07 base S, 2-door. All are the same color and all are manuals. I really wanted an 08 just for the 20 ponies, but $16,334 OTD is REAL hard to pass up. All I need to do is sell my Si or get a decent trade in amount and hopefully come Monday I'll be in my new bunny! :drive:
Thug Bunny 11-01-2007, 10:11 PM Id get the 07, seein how the year end is almost here, might find one for a realyl good deal. You can the 20 extra horses later.
quality_sound 11-01-2007, 10:44 PM That was my feeling. When it was only a $274 difference it was an easy pick for the 08, but with a thousand dollar difference it's an easy pick for the 07.
snottyrabbit 11-01-2007, 11:51 PM $1000 dollars is going to be the difference of around 10-12 bucks per month on your payment.....15 maybe.....

That is exactly why I went up a little bit on my asking price. It was difficult to find a Rabbit and I realized in the long run that over 48 months, the extra money was nominal per month.
Without Interest for $1,000:
48 Months = $20.83 extra / month
60 Months = $16.67 extra / month
Up to you, but I know what I would do, or already did. :Ciao:
If you are planning on keeping the car for a while I would go with the 2008. Even though you are "saving" the $1k on the sale price, the 2007 is already a 1 year old car on the books and depreciation has eaten even more of the value. I'd go the bit extra if you can afford the monthly hit -- take the extra 20 HP and a year newer car.

I agree here. Besides the 20 HP, it has also been stated that the 08 Rabbit is 22mm lower, so in essence you are also getting a .75" - 1" lowering kit for the price. I have also read here that there were some transmission improvements made to the 08 models (manual transmission, I believe).
In my mind, for $1,000 difference, I would still take an 08. If the difference were more like $2,500 then I might think differently...

If I was your normal Rabbit buyer the HP and lowering might matter but in reality being an 07 will have its advantages. Until I move to Germany I'm going to be putting almost 100 miles a day on it so the 07 puts lets me sort of play catch up in that respect.
As for the suspension, I haven't paid for an aftermarket suspension (or a number of other aftermarket parts for that matter) in 4 or 5 years so the 22mm lowering won't be a big deal. I doubt it'll be more than a month before I've gotten the wheels and suspension are swapped and if I find some brake setups I like that too. This will be my daily driver so it won't be built like my last car (04.5 Passat, Feb 07 issue Performance Auto and Sound) but I still gotta be me.
What transmission updates were there? I can't see what they'd have changed except maybe gear ratios but I haven't heard anything about that.
But in any event, the white 08 sold and I could have gotten a UG 08 but I decided to stick to my guns on the color and I'm picking up my CW 07 tomorrow. :drive: :drive: :drive: :drive:
Rumynchik 11-08-2007, 08:57 AM I think it is really about how much are you saving on 07 vs. 08.
I really REALLY wanted an 08, but first off - I've only found three 4D Rabbits in the whole tri-state area (PA/NJ/DE), and second, I got my 07 Rabbit (automatic, w/16" wheels, splash/mud guards and 2 sets of mats+trunk liner) for $18,500 OTD (thats with taxes and tags).
An 08 would run me at least 20K comparably equipped methinks.
I also consider keeping the car for at least 5-6 years, so in the end I doubt I will even be trading it in.
XcubedVW 11-08-2007, 10:16 PM I got my 2008 Rabbit, 4-Door, Automatic, Sunroof, Mats and Trunk Liner for $18,950 OTD inc all all dealer fees. Is this a good deal?

That sounds insanely low for where I live. Considering that MSRP on your car would be $20300 and Invoice $19700. That is just for the car, not counting fees, taxes and tags.
That is a deal out of this world (at least for my area)

Based on what he says thats OTD, including all fees and taxes.
That is an amazing price.
Dealer must be losing some money on that deal.

Makes me wonder if the trade-in was involved? Maybe the dealer is making up on the trade? Because dealer does not need to push 08 models 3K under MSRP just yet. They have only recently come out. I've looked for my Rabbit in 5 states (PA, DE, NJ, MD and NY) and have not found anything $200 below the MSRP. Considering that Automatic and sunroof add ~$2K on top of MSRP, unless he was buying in one of the states that do not have sales tax AND the dealer just had to push the car out of the lot, that deal is just godly.
XcubedVW 11-09-2007, 05:27 PM I am really surprised at the deals you guys are getting. I mean, I went to 3 dealers and I negotiated AT LEAST $500 under invoice at all of them on 2008 rabbits. The reason I didn't purchase immediately was because of the credit. I have tier A credit, but the salesmen said you either get good credit or you get a really low price.
The car I purchased, 2008 4-Door Auto w/Sunroof, Mats, and Trunkliner is without a trade. I got it for $18,950 OTD. Meaning that I financed $18,950 for 60 months @ get ready for this......7.35% APR with tier A credit. Ouch on the credit right? Well, I'll probably pay it off in 3 years, so it's not so bad.
Dealers here in the Portland Metro area are full of rabbits. Gladstone VW, when I purchased my rabbit, had like 8 2-Doors, and like 4x 4-Door rabbits, 2008s of course.
I mean, their internet guy straight up offered me invoice price on a 2008 ON THE PHONE! Most likely they have some incentives from manufacturer or a really big factory holdback.

All I can say is, I wish I could get a VW $2K under invoice in tri-state area :( Or at least not pay taxes on my purchase :) That would be nice. Maybe they can discount the cars that much because there's no taxes in Oregon. Because out here prices like that just don't exist.
Oh, and I'm paying 6.74% with tier A credit...
