: Test Drive
phonics_monkey 10-17-2007, 09:43 PM I just went to the local VW dealer today to test drive a rabbit. Up to that point, I had never been in one let alone driven one.
I have driven both the VW GTI (6-speed) and the VW GLI (DSG)(both 07's) and I loved both, but I don't have 30k t drop on a car.
Rabbit = Love. All there is to it.:)
I thought you guys were a little over the top with your praise when i first joined this forum, but my god. I drove a '93 camry for 3 years, and since then I have been sharing my brothers '06 civic DX.
Neither of those cars have any real comparison to the Rabbit. The dealer even told me about the VAG-COM and that the warranty will still apply if you can switch the codes back to default before each tune-up. He was actually a car guy, which was fantastic.
My buddy who normally drives a 220HP Dodge Avenger was shocked at the rabbit.
I'm not sure when I will be able to pick one up, it probably wont be until next spring, but for the next 5-6 months, I know what I'll be dreaming about.
I'm still smiling, and its been 5 hours.
(The dealer was Concours Motors of Milwaukee, by the way...)
FrankPro666 10-18-2007, 02:37 AM Sweet Bro:cool: Glad to hear some as stoked to drive the rabbit as me..... i predict many "test drives" in your future until you can finally get one ;-)
just make sure that when you DO go in for service that you not mention that you switched it back to the default... it's still better that they just not know in case anything were to happen
phonics_monkey 10-18-2007, 09:43 PM Yeah, I looked at VAGCOM info, and the idea as a whole interests me... There is a shop in Madison owned independantly from the VW dealers who specializes only in VW, so I think when I finally get my car that any VAGCOM stuff I do will be done by me, but with help from them. That way I can plan on learning how to use it from someone with a lot of experience, and still be able to restore defaults myself.
Also, any mods that I can't get through VW (like exaust) I would get done there.
But thanks for the info, and I'm sure there will be more test drives.

The funny thing is....is that you CAN buy exhaust from VW and lowering springs as well.
phonics_monkey 10-19-2007, 10:20 AM I knew they had springs, but I had no idea about exhaust.
Can I find it online or is it something I need to ask the dealer about?

It is usually in the back of Driver Gear Mag....
phonics_monkey 10-29-2007, 11:05 PM Test drove the '08 last weekend... parents have agreed to help pay for it (im 18 and paying for college) so I go into the dealer in Early February to order it direct from Germany, should arrive next May. (pending I don't fail any classes) ;)
I can't decide what color, but last night I dreamed I was driving a black one, so maybe my heart knows which way to go.
No Idea how I'm gonna last till May without one... But theres no need to buy it sooner cuz I'll still be in the dorms till May.
I'm pumped.

yeah, they are nice. For me, the Rabbit is a utilitarian daily driver with pep and cargo room. there really are times that I wonder how that car gets all that pep, but it does. For the 08, the good news is the intake and exhaust are slightly better. Good exhaust upgrade from there currently is Techtonics (http://www.techtonicstuning.com/) and a good intake is Carbonio.
Make sure to take full use of the 10 speaker stereo surround sound system that is standard in this car. It is rad!!
As far as color, think of your personality and when you use the car. Like, for example, if you drive your car in a cold climate and like to be stealthy at night, pitch black is the color for you - it will warm the car naturally and also go invis at night (when the lights are off, of course lol  ) . Red is both refined and aggressive. My car, in Candy White, is a reflective heat mirror that stays cool yet stands out like Wonderbread at night.
Candy White reminds me of:
a slab of marble
Wordsworth the Cat (from the Heathcliff cartoon)
Usagi Yojimbo
Clouds
Clean laundry
Jumping Flash (awesome video game for Playstation One)
White Mages or Paladins from the Final Fantasy series
Buckethead's Mask
OldMike 11-01-2007, 11:54 AM Fortunately you have some time to decide on a color... You can visit the dealer while you are waiting, to see the car in person when you are considering a certain color.
I have owned many, many black cars. I think they look great - but they are really frustrating to keep clean. I would get my car washed, and by the time it was home you could almost see a layer of dust sitting on top of it... Plus every little minor scratch and ding seems to stand out on black cars. Other people might not notice them, but everytime I get into my car my eyes jump right to all the little scratches. I just got rid of my last black car, and still have a black truck. I try to humor myself about the scratches and dings on the truck by telling myself that it makes it look meaner - but it doesn't really help.
I like the United Grey color that VW offers in the Rabbits. I just bought a Jetta in platinum grey and wish it was a little darker like the United Grey seems to be. It seems that the greys would be very easy to keep looking good. Scratches seem to just blend in and are almost invisible. I had a grey car a few years ago, and was impressed with the length of time it could go between washes and remain looking nice...
I think the Rabbit photo thread is great on this forum - and a great way to help with selecting a color. I like looking at the cars from all the different angles the shots were taken, to get an idea of what a color really looks like on a car. I actually spent countless hours checking out everyone's cars, trying to decide on a color. For some reason my favorite colors on the Rabbit were red, united grey and white...
The pre-purchase decisions (and dreaming) is half the fun of buying a car - so have fun...
