: they were drunk when they built it
Tooth&Hare 07-18-2007, 06:18 PM first time rabbit owner third time VW owner (72' s beetle & 67 bus)
had to take the rabbit in to the dealer cause the passenger air bag light kept flashing. had to keep it over night. turns out it was blinking cause they system was detecting a fault due to no signal from the switch to turn the passenger airbag off. which as most would know, they dont have. the weight sensing mat in the seat thing. that option, if i was informed right, was only for ROW cars. (rest of the world, was the terminology i was given) anyone else had this little coo?
kitty 07-18-2007, 06:23 PM the passenger airbag enables with more than 40 pounds on the seat.
snottyrabbit 07-18-2007, 06:24 PM Do you people not read the fu****g manual?
You dealership is fu****g stupid too for not knowing that and depriving you of your car for a night.
GEEZUS!
kitty 07-18-2007, 06:27 PM calm down snotty, deep breaths, deep breaths ;)
Tooth&Hare 07-18-2007, 06:33 PM well considering the transmission was built somewhere else other than where the engine was built which was built somewhere else the chassis was built THEN all put together in one place, its a wounder they get the seats facing the right way. but yeah, it seemed like a BS kinda mistake, the dealer told me they havent had any report of this before but eh...
kitty 07-18-2007, 06:42 PM so, let me see if i'm understanding you correctly... the sensor in the seat was telling the system there was weight on it when there wasn't, and since the seatbelt was not engaged, it was blinking. it seems like that's what was happening. i know that if the passenger takes off their belt to adjust or something, the passenger airbag light blinks.
snottyrabbit 07-18-2007, 06:50 PM T&H.....I am perturbed that your dealership gave you some bulls*** line about what "wasn't" wrong with your car.
I have been hearing more and more and more stories like this lately. But rest assured that there is nothing wrong with your passenger side airbag. There is not an "ROW" Rabbit airbag monitoring system that is defective only in America. Volkswagen did this so when some dumbass irresponsible mom or dad put his/her kid in the car in the front seat in a car seat it didn't die from being blasted by the airbag deploying at 1000 MPH. Hence the forty pound thing....
Tooth&Hare 07-18-2007, 06:50 PM no there was just a general fault in the system since it wasnt getting a signal from something that doesnt exsist in the rabbits sold in america. an actual switch with a key to turn the passenger airbag on and off
Tooth&Hare 07-18-2007, 06:52 PM thanks snotty for having my back. TONIGHT WE MARCH!!
*edit- for those who monitor the web for criminal activity and take that comment for an instigation of revolution...i advise u to get a sense of humor
shawng 07-18-2007, 08:27 PM I read the thread and still can't figure out what is being said, but keep in mind US and Canadian cars are different for the passenger side airbag. US has the light in the dash and the airbag disables. In Canada there is no light on the dash and from what i can tell from the manual the airbag does not disable.
kitty 07-18-2007, 08:30 PM so other parts of the world get an actual "put key in and turn to disable and enable passenger airbag" thing?
our TT had that.
shawng 07-18-2007, 09:30 PM don't think so since the car has a back seat for the kids. TT is 2 seater so for a car seat you need to turn off the passenger air bag. i have seen the key switch in pickups as well.
kitty 07-18-2007, 09:35 PM yeah generally only roadsters or trucks or something sans backseat gets that, which is why i'm still lost, but that's all that is making any sense right now.
Tooth&Hare 07-19-2007, 07:57 PM thats just what the dealer told me. seemed kina weird that there would be any difference at all but thats just the information that was given to me.
shawng 07-19-2007, 08:00 PM Dealers to tend to say what they will to make you go away when there is no money to be had.
kitty 07-24-2007, 11:53 PM well, this is interesting. i was looking at stuff on tmtuning and i came across this picture. notice the top left corner of the glovebox.
