Hey guys, just got home from the dealer and got this quote on a new 07 Rabbit. Let me know where I'm getting ripped off and what you think I could bargain down to. Thanks a million.

The dealer said most of the Rabbits come in this specific configuration - so I couldn't get my exact choices (which were almost as low as possible). I live near Rochester, NY.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
White/Black color (I want white, maybe black if no white)

2 Door (Gotta have 2dr)

ESP (Quoted at an additional $450, I'll take it if available)

16" Alloy (Quoted at an additional $400, I want the basic 15" wheels if possible to save $)

Auto Transmission (Gotta have auto for my driving)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was it. So basically it seems as if I'm forced to get the 16" wheels because the 15" are nowhere to be found. He also said he can't order from factory anymore because the 08's are coming.

He didn't have any on his lot but said he found a few with the config that he setup (including the 16") that he could get shipped here. He quoted me at: (I have no trade in - this car will be financed at 4.9% if I get approved)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL LIST PRICE: $17,555.00

NYS SALES TAX: $1,404.40

WASTE TIRE MGT FEE $2.50/TIRE: $12.50

DEALER'S OPTIONAL FEE FOR PROCESSING APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION.....: $45.00

REGISTRATION/TITLE: $120.00

INSPECTION FEE: $10.00

CAR PREP: $99.95

TOTAL AMOUNT: $19,246.85
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, am I getting ripped off?

I would say that, yes, you are being charged too much. The VW site that I used to configure you rabbit has a sticker of $16,465.
http://www.vw.com/vwfeatures/rabbit/en/us/

The ESP is, I believe, standard and the $400 16" rims are the very basic Magny Cours. The price also reflects your automatic transmission. I think that the extra $1,100 ($16,465 --> $17,555) is markup.

Time to deal bud.

Well, with that said, down to what do you think I can bargain with them for? I don't even know where to begin.

Ask for the mark-up (which I assume is the difference from sticker to quoted) price to be reduced. Skip that $99 dealer prep. Honestly, you can wash/detail your own car for not only cheaper but with better results too.

Research that ESP. I could swear that the feature is standard (check edmunds.com) and you could save 450 dollars. Stick to your guns on the 15" wheels.

In short, you need to decide how much you want this Rabbit. Be prepared to step away if the deal isn't right for you.

Welcome mangod,

I paid MSRP for the car w/ auto and got invoice for my ESP and magny cours. I'm with TR on checking edmonds or KBB and skip the prep fee. I think the dealer fee of 45 is reasonable.

good luck

If you are a member of Costco, your cost should be around $200 over invoice (plus transportation charge), and the partisipating dealership will show it to you.

First, ESP is NOT standard, its on option. In Canada anyway. And about being a Costco member. They only charge you $200 above dealer costs?? Is that all VW or select dealerships? Where can I get more info on this?

When you go to costco.com and fill out the questionaire, the site will point you to the nearest participating dealer, and the dealer's rep will call you.
But they will not quote over the phone, they want you in the door.... I test drove a Jetta and Rabbit on a Friday, called them the next Friday to source my vehicle, and on the 3rd Friday it took 45 minutes to complete the paper paperwork and I was out the door in 60 minutes!!!!
