Have you checked the fuse for the indicators?

Also it may be the relay. Just got my first Golf so not sure where the relay will be, but guess it will be in with the fuses as that is where they have been on all other cars I have owned.

By chance did you notice if you also lost the headlights and wipers? That's somewhat common and is usually the ignition switch. My MK3 had this issue. Was intermittent at first, would go away if I restarted it. Finally got to the point it did it almost all the time and I had to jiggle the key. Then one day wouldn't start. This was way back in the day when MK3s still had warranties, VW fought me because I had an aftermarket keyless entry. I finally gave up since I needed a car that started and I paid a shop to fix it.

I take all that back because I am not paying attention. Ignition switch = headlights, wipers, and vents. Disregard lol. Probably fuse, maybe relay.
