Has anyone had this happen to them? While driving on a smooth winding country road, a large pop, similar to someone popping an air filled bag, sounded inside the vehicle. It was loud enough to make my right ear ring. Stopped and looked the vehicle over, but could not see an explanation. It is a 2009 Tiquan 4 Motion Turbo, just a little over 5000 miles on it.

The exact same thing happened to me today, except i have a 2011 Jetta TDI. It scared the hell out of me. It was so loud it sounded like a firecracker went off. My right ear was ringing. i pulled over expecting a blown tire or a cracked windshield, but nothing. no visible damage at all. very strange. did you ever find out what caused it?

most likely it was an object hitting the windshield. and yes it does sound like a freaking gun sometimes (it has happened more than a few times in my car). but vw has some really good glass on the windshields. although, this last time it did crack mine...

A rock hitting the windshield will make a noise like this.
