: New Member With Some QUESTIONS!!
NRG_RaBBiT 05-31-2010, 12:27 AM Hi everyone, I've been browsing around this sitefor quite a while but just decided to join today. I drive a 2dr '08 United Gray Rabbit.
Im looking to do some major exterior mods, to give you all an idea I plan on dropping the car http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270533647390&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (still unsure about which coilovers to get),
I'm also changing the Headlights for these: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150444317037&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
If i get these do i need to switch the euro switch as well?
And lastly I was inspired by a member's photo of their rabbit with a Jetta MKV front bumper/grill on this pagehttp://volkswagenownersclub.com/vw/showthread.php/2675-VW-Rabbit-COLOR-United-Gray/page9
its DUSlider's 'night shots' on page 9. I really love the idea and want to know how much it would cost and where i can get it from.
I look forward to a great time on ROC!
russdawg24 05-31-2010, 12:35 AM Welcome! Looks like you're on the right track. Koni Coilovers are good coilovers. But I'd forget E-Bay for them, try WRD HERE (http://wrdusa.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=wrdusa&Product_Code=11505080&Category_Code=a5gti20tsuspension). Save some money. Plus I bought a set of Koni's from them and they were easy to deal with.
DUSlider 05-31-2010, 12:58 AM Hey, first of all, welcome to VWOC.
I responded to your post on my profile page. The FE swap was paid for mostly by my insurance company due to a front end accident. As far as cost, I'll give you the US$ estimate, but I'm not sure how being in Canada will affect your pricing. I got my parts from Paul at KefferVW. He is offering employee pricing over on Vortex and the discount outweighed the cost of shipping for me. In your case, since you are in Canada, you may need to negotiate with your dealer's parts guy, unless you just happen to run into someone parting out a wreck or a Jetta/GTI that wants to do a Rabbit swap (rare).
Jetta 2.5 Rad Support - $190*
Jetta Bumper Skin - $240
Jetta Bumper Molding - $36 x2
Wolfsberg Lower Grills (center and sides with fogs)- $145
Wolfsberg Grill Shield - $98
Jetta Bumper Brackets (below headlights) - $12 x2 **
Jetta Bumper Guides (attached to Fenders) - $??? ***
Jetta Votex Front Lip - $309 ****
The cost for this was just for parts and didn't include labor for painting and installation. All plastic came primed and ready for prep/paint.
*- MY Rabbit Radiator support was broken in the accident, the swap can be done without the Jetta 2.5 support, but there is less trimming of the bumper if you swap it.
**- Rabbit ones can be trimmed so they fit, one of my Rabbit ones had been broken in the accident, so I just bought the Jetta ones.
***- Not sure the cost as I didn't but the Jetta ones, thought the rabbit ones would work but the body shop ended up trimming them.
****- Obviously, if you don't have the Votex ground effects kit you don't need this, however I am not sure the stock Rabbit lip will fit the Jetta bumper, so you may need to get the stock Jetta lip instead.
If you have any other questions let me know. I hope this was of help and that you enjoy your stay on VWOC.
EDIT:: Agree with Russdawg24 on the coilovers. I got mine from MJMautohaus for $950, but don't think they are offering that price anymore so WRD seems to be the next best deal.
NRG_RaBBiT 05-31-2010, 10:34 AM ^^Thanks guys thats really helpful. I'll need to get in touch with the parts guy here on my end and figure out a deal for paint and installation. I feel like just the FE will cost me 1000+ without installation or paint, also thanks for confirming my choice of Koni coils, will definitely order from WRD and save some money.
Any opinions on the headlights i want to buy? I'm ready to order them but i think i would need to buy something else or is it simply plug and play? I'll try uploading a pics here:

BTW i will post some pics of my rabbit really soon, all i have are 17'' ZX Tunings, Window Tints and White Side Markers.
kiserhd 05-31-2010, 10:52 AM The stock rabbit lip will not fit the jetta bumper.
dude, let me know if you need parts, i got my front plus paint for about less than 500$,
NRG_RaBBiT 05-31-2010, 12:26 PM it didnt snow here in May?? dude i appreciate it thanks, I'll def let you know when im ready to commit.

it didnt snow here in May?? dude i appreciate it thanks, I'll def let you know when im ready to commit.
check facebook, all my friends were like wtf why is it snowing
Russki 06-01-2010, 02:48 PM If u want to save like 700$ on coilovers with the same preformance as Koni, go with these. Many members on here will co-sign these - they are great

DUSlider 06-01-2010, 04:16 PM Keep in mind the Koni's have damping adjustable shocks, so they aren't really comparable.
NRG_RaBBiT 06-01-2010, 06:50 PM @SElover your right it did snow, i dont know what i was thinking it always snows here....
@Russki i was debating the two just because there was another thread here that was all-for raceland coils, and they are cheap.. its just that i love the way my rabbit handles and feels now that if i go with something cheap im going to regret it later on.
@DUSlider what do the dampening adjustable shocks do ... sorry for the stupid question but im really new to all this.
also i just got a message back from Ebay from the guy that i want to buy the R8 headlights from, can someone plz tell me what this means..
he wrote:
Hi Adamo,
You have the 6 pin version which our 10 pin headlight will fit, but, why are you lacking 4 is because that you probably have factory halogen version, without certain feature such as auto-leveling....etc The 10 pin headlight has auto-leveling in it, that is why has the extra 4 pin. The headlight will still fit fine on the 6 pin, just to let you know that auto-leveling won't work because from stock, you don't have it originally.
Regards,
Simon
basically what is going to happen if i dont have the auto-leveling, and do i need a new euro switch for these headlights. All pics of the headlights are a few posts up.
i still have a euro switch left, but i dont believe you need it, we have the 10 pin plug, but only using 6 of them, its alright, it will work
these might be better... i trust ecstuning x100000 times over ebay

xchoppedupx 06-02-2010, 03:07 AM Those headlights look nice! Yeah definitely go with ECS over ebay any day. I got mine off Tmtuning and they look amazing. Couldnt be happier http://www.tmtuning.com/vw/. The Ecs ones look great too

you will not regret raceland coils. i have had mine for about 6 months now and i absolutely love them. i actually drive my car and use them for what they where made for and the handling is amazing. there are other users on here that will back this up 100%
