i know eco has catalytic and loosy IP. i'd loose cat and i have an IP fro ma 1984 turbo diesel.
i know they had trouble overheating (had bigger cooling system- radiator and dual fans).
any other differences?

Diesels don't have cat's.
They should have a over sized radiator, and a oil cooler.

diesels do have cats some do and some dont, in the real world, they aren't supposed to. And they SHOULD have an oil cool and a bigger radiator, sometimes they never do.

all the new diesels have cats.
i know some pick up trucks in the mid/late 90's had a "soot trap". they get clogged and loose power.

on all the truck diesel forums you read signatures "cat MIA" or something.
the epa is trying to catch/elimnate the soot particles from diesels.
they've changed our fuel (to ULSD from LSD) and now the engine oil since October - low emission formula.

i pick up the car monday for $600 (with spare IP).

i intend to do a basic rebuild and freshen it up, then use IP and turbo from a 1984 turbo diesel. no cat.
its going into my 1984 rabbit.
