: Canon t1i VS Nikon d90
U_Blind 11-23-2009, 09:30 PM Well im down to these 2 cameras. I started from a long list and eliminated stuff on the way..
What do you prefer?
And all you DSLR users.. let me know which is better and why ,..
Please and thanks.

xfourevertruex 11-24-2009, 08:50 AM I'll be first to bite here.
Do you have previous experience with either Canon or Nikon? Most people (myself included) would go with the one that YOU feel is more comfortable. I can use my Nikon bodies just as easily as my gf's Canon xti.
I went with Nikon because I got a better deal at the time, and haven't regretted it a bit.
djwhiplash2001 11-24-2009, 08:56 AM How's that M3
U_Blind 11-24-2009, 03:16 PM sexy. But sold.there was an underwater rock. that we didnt really notice. after we noticed that there was alot of other things. =( very dissapointed but looking for another.

i like both cameras.. but theres things and people that tell me different things. The nikon is mroe confortable to hold, the canon shoots better pics.. the nikon is definately more expensive..
um well which one is easier to use? cuz this will be my first.
xfourevertruex 11-24-2009, 03:33 PM if this is your first, why don't you go for something less expensive? I promise you a D40 or an xTi will take just as nice of pics.
The camera is just the medium between the subject of the photo and your brain. Dont' get wrapped up in megapixels and "this camera has this feature and this one does this". Just go to a store, handle both cameras, see what kinda deal you can get on each one, and go with the one that works best.
U_Blind 11-24-2009, 03:41 PM yea, the only reason im looking for a d90, thats the side im leaning to mostly is because one of my friends does this for a living and he said he could give me some pointers. I asked the same question why get something so pro at my level. his answer was" cuz i bet in 3 months ull grow out of it"
Ive been seeing some ok deals on d90 body's like $700 for body with cables and etc..
xfourevertruex 11-24-2009, 03:50 PM there isn't a pro in the world that would grow out of a D40. Don't mean to be rude to your friend...but it just isn't true.
for example: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40.htm
U_Blind 11-24-2009, 03:55 PM oh yo, i didnt mean it like that lol. I ment like he knows how to take pics.. really cool ones. so he said hell teach me
djwhiplash2001 11-24-2009, 03:57 PM Taking cool pics has very little to do with the actual camera, and even then it's a combination of body and lens. Please ask your friend to justify the cost step-up to the D90 - name exactly what it can do that makes it worth so much more.
I could justify the T1i over a regular one only because it does the HD video.
xfourevertruex 11-24-2009, 03:59 PM Its really great to have someone that can show you the ropes and get your going with photography. I haven't had that and there have been MANY times when I wish I could've just gone out with someone to watch them work.
there are a couple VERY good youtube series on learning photography. I reference them often. If you are interested I'll send them your way. The reason I say to get a cheaper one is not only because they'll take some super nice shots, but because it leaves more money to spend on other lenses, etc.
You'll definitely want a tripod. I think every camera sold in the world should come with one, even if the price had to be raised a few bucks.
Silver08Rabbit 11-24-2009, 04:00 PM name exactly what it can do that makes it worth so much more.
It can un-ban you from websites!

I'm sure even DJ has a price.... LOL

That was EPIC Punk. ROFL!
U_Blind 11-24-2009, 05:14 PM well fist of all i wanna say that im here to stay and hopefully not get banned again. But since u wanted to know why i think and he thinks the d90 is better because its more confortable in your hands, its built more durably.. etc
As for a tripod, i have one =D i was kinda quick before so i bought one for my olympus sp 700. i actually got one of these http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0298871 used for $20.
Im still saving up for the d90.
As for the lens i want... i want a 50mm 1.8 nikkor lens
Silver08Rabbit 11-24-2009, 05:17 PM well fist of all i wanna say that im here to stay and hopefully not get banned again.
If you don't get banned it will only be because we are entertaining ourselves. You should be banned for coming back after you were banned. I'm pretty sure it was for a reason. Look up the definition of ban.
djwhiplash2001 11-24-2009, 05:23 PM As for the lens i want... i want a 50mm 1.8 nikkor lens
Would be positively horrible to have as your only lens.

since u want to be some negative.. why dont u not comment on my posts please.
U_Blind 11-24-2009, 05:28 PM Would be positively horrible to have as your only lens.
well, why?
djwhiplash2001 11-24-2009, 05:35 PM No zoom. What's the crop factor on the sensor of the D90? Prolly 1.25x. That'll leave a lot of your shots zoomed way in. It's a good lens, don't get me wrong - but not the one you want for every day shooting. The kit lens is an 18-55 or so, isn't it? That's a good starter lens to have. The 50mm f/1.8 definitely has its place and is a good lens, I'd recommend everyone have one. Just not good for every type of shooting.
kitty 11-24-2009, 05:39 PM i'm debating between the following:
1) banning. while satisfying, it's not all that amusing.
2) just telling him we don't want him and see how it goes.
3) sitting back and enjoying the show.
what say you fellow VOC'ers? for now we're going with 3 and see what happens. my guess is it will lead to 2, then 1.
U_Blind 11-24-2009, 05:41 PM you know what, since im so unwelcomed.. im just gonna leave because this will get me nowhere but even more trouble.
thanks 2 the people who actually helped.
djwhiplash2001 11-24-2009, 05:42 PM 2 wins.
kitty 11-24-2009, 05:47 PM 2 wins.
haha, he got the idea.
he should buy a GTI because it's more popular with kids.
kitty 11-24-2009, 05:58 PM FYI: you reported my post to me. i did you a favor by not just banning you instantly.

Silver08Rabbit 11-24-2009, 06:18 PM you can post advice.
Ok here is mine. Pavlo I think you should have taken the hint from being banned the first time. I have a feeling that soon enough you will find yourself unable to get on ROC once again. You are the weakest link, goodbye!

hans finally got fed up. i don't know the details.
Mr. Dillinger 11-25-2009, 08:08 AM I would go with Nikon, I used one at my previous job to shoot our products and loved it..if I had 2 grand to spend on a camera I would get one for sure...but in the end it's up to you, but I say get the Nikon
Silver08Rabbit 11-25-2009, 08:12 AM Just curios why did Pavlo get banned. I do not remember
Search his user name and read some of the crap he used to post. He is annoying that is why he got banned.
U_Blind 11-25-2009, 08:41 AM lol, that surprises me too. I didnt realize i was that annoying back then. Oh yea and btw the more popular for teenagers thing is hilarious. Im not that annoying now.

AngryCorgi 11-25-2009, 09:04 AM Seriously, if you have zero investment in either system, I'd suggest looking at the D90. I've owned many Canons (XT, 30D, 1D2, 5D) and also a D700 and D90. The D90's pentaprism VF is much nicer than the XT/XTi/XSi/T1i pentamirror VF. It's brighter and larger.
If you don't own any glass at the moment, then I'd suggest the D90.

I dont own anything at the moment but a olympus sp700 which is very old. Im going today to BH photo in new york to test out both the t1i and the d90. Both with a 18-55mm lens. Ill be looking at which is more confortable to hold, which is heavier, which is easier to use.
Thanks for the opinion..

If you ETTR with the D90, you'll have more recovery ability than with the T1i. The Canon sensors, sadly, don't hold up well to slight over-exposures.
I sold my D700, so my digital kit is the following at the moment: D90, 35/1.8G, 50/1.8D, Sigma 24/2.8, and Nikon 55-200 VR. If I want to shoot FF I normally use my FE-10 + 50/1.8 e-series combo and occasionally I'll use my F75 with a Nikon 28-75/3.5-4.5D for family get-togethers. My scanner does a pretty good job and I can get 10-12MP out of portra or ektar.

I'll say it again in hopes that it's gets through this time...but I know it won't.
You are wasting money on a more expensive body that could be used on glass or a bag, etc.
U_Blind 11-25-2009, 09:24 AM yea, that another one of the lenses i was really looking into the 50mm 1.8 The dude that is supposed to teach me uses it mostly all the time.

50mm on DX is like having 75mm on a 35mm camera. It's portrait length. I'm not saying you can't leave it on your camera, but the 35G is a better all-purpose prime than the 50/1.8.
If Nikon would release a 28/1.8G lens, then we'd really be in business! ;)

It's a great and Inexpensive prime lens but not practical to leave on the camera all the time
U_Blind 11-25-2009, 09:33 AM It's a great and Inexpensive prime lens but not practical to leave on the camera all the time
I agree, the 18-50mm lens is a very good one to learn on so that will be on most of the time but what i was saying was that i wanted to get a 50mm 1.8 in the future ;)
djwhiplash2001 11-25-2009, 09:34 AM Your best investment would be in lenses rather than a body. I'm really surprised your friend didn't say that as well. In a year or two, your body will be outdated but your lenses will always be good. The only time it makes sense to spend money on a body is if you do it professionally and make money with it to make back the cost of the body.
