If you do have the parking assist. system the Tig parks the car for you. So when you come back to your car how do you leave as he doesn't do that for you?... But now it becomes very interesting. First you have the camera but the OPS display shows also you your car with the possible obstacles in front or behind you AND even next to the car - or if only on the right side, left or on both sides! First you get a beige obstacle but when you do approach, the nearer you get the more it becomes a larger red beam and comes closer to the digital car on the display. (+ the sensores in front and back). Great !!!
So if you hit a car behind you or a wall, than you must really be drunk and should go by feet....

when using park assist it does look for rather large gaps when parallel
parking.. also if the car behind is misaligned in the parking it will mirror
its position.. finished up all over the kerb the other day :)

I've just read in a article that they allready improved the system for the new Golf. The parking distance became smaller!
And there's more coming (article allready june 2008): Park Assist Vision parks the car fullyally automatic in a parking zone, with or without driver at the wheel. Two cameras in the left and right-view mirror messors the parking space. A computer of 2 GHz calculates the video indicators of the camera, sends the car and takes over the service of the engine. Two cameras to in front and the back of the car and parkingsensors accompany the process and on the basis of these data the computer stops the car if this is necessary. By means of remote control the driver can stop the park operationpark operations at any time themselves. This is a significant vaster system than park, introduced in 2007 the Assist, where Passat-, Tiguan- are possible or the Tourandriver semi-automatically fileparking. Both new systems are themselves far at their test stage. When park Assist Vision and Parking garage assistant in production is taken, and in which volkswagen models have been not yet confessed.

According to our handbook the NZ Tig will select any space more than 1.5m longer than the Tig itself ?? I've had a couple of times it has parked in MUCH smaller spaces than I'd select myself.
