Nice looking car there.

I really wonder how many 4 dr GTI's will sell here in the US?

Does anyone happen to know when the 4 door GTIs will be showing up at dealerships?

According to what I've read they are showing up now

I think having 4 dr's on a GTI just takes away from what it is. They look ok, but won't get the respect of being a Hot Hatch that the 2dr models do. Thus I have a 2dr and not a 4dr. I did test drive the 4 however.

Um, why not just buy an Audi A3? Same car right?

Nope. They're actually quite dissimilar, despite the same engine/transmition. A3 has a different interior, different suspension, different body, proportions, etc.

I'm not convinced. I saw an A3 in a parking lot and the interior looked nearly identical (okay, leather seats and a sweet steering wheel) to my -gasp- rabbit. I'm sure it'll be priced about the same. I agree about defeating the sports car purpose behind the GTI. 4dr sports cars went back out of style with the WRX and Evo VIII.

The GTI has a nice wheel as well and you can get it in leather.

wow. i like the red screen graphic on the instrument cluster. the one on the rabbit is my only complaint. i think it's a usability disaster, in fact - too many numbers clumped together in kind of an ugly display. My only complaint about the rabbit is that (like all the newer VWs) they've moved the clock and temp to the instrument cluster, and out of general view of the passengers. In my ex girlfriend's '01 beetle, the clock/temp were up where the map lights are on the rabbit. much better location, IMHO.
