I need to buy a budget-priced pair of headphones that will help eliminate noises around me, and would like recommendations on what to get. I really don't want earbuds- would rather have sealed ear cups. Currently looking at...
Sennheiser HD202 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000065BP9/sr=8-3/qid=1232590503/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1232590503&sr=8-3&seller=)
Sony MDR-NC6 (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-NC6-Noise-Canceling-Headphones/dp/B000629GES/ref=pd_bbs_sr_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232591228&sr=8-9)
Any ideas? kthxbai

My dad has a pair of Bose... they are awesome.... but def not budget.
i actually just picked up some V-Moda Bass Freq earphones, damn they sound good, they are earbuds though, noise isolating, not noise cancelling, they have a good design, 39 clams at microcenter cause i didn't want to order them online...

noise cancellation is actually achieved by a microprocessor or a e-circuit that takes information from a microphone and feeds certain processed waves back to block the information you would normally hear, i'm not sure if that microphone is in the little box that is usually found on these headsets or if it is actually attached to each earphone, i don't believe the block external sounds from entering your ears, just low-level noises, like the hum of an electric motor/s, office full of computers, possibly plane engines, motor vehicles, i think anything that can have a droning effect... (most car mufflers uses noise cancellation through acoustics, it causes the waves to reflect back onto each other which cancels the noise when they collide)
noise isolating is basically achieved with a rubber or soft foam form-factor that essentially plugs your ears really well, almost the same effect as sticking your fingers in your ears or actually earplugs to prevent water from penetrating your ear canal, anyway, when you plug your ears in this fashion you usually get a quiet result, imagine plugging your ears with your fingers and then at the same time imagine your had little speakers at the tips of your fingers... if built correctly, and if you have the ear canal to match the buds, these work great, however, keep in mind that you probably won't be able to hear anything around you very well, even if there is no music playing...:)
i of course could have stated something above incorrectly but i believe that is how i have explained it to myself..
