I will wait till I see one in person and drive it to make my judgment. That camera is nice though and the side view mirrors are nicer.I do like how it takes longer to make the MKV.

I do like how it takes longer to make the MKV.

I was sort of thinking the same thing. I realize that it costs the company more to spend more time making each car, but you also run the risk of overproducing and having a huge lot full of unsold cars. If some of you may not have been looking at the news recently, that's becoming a huge problem now. GM, Ford, Toyota, etc. all have tons of unsold, unused cars rotting away and taking up every square inch of lot space, and it's really depressing. They've even resorted to using a test track for storage.

It would be sad to see the Mk VI suffer the same fate for VW. I'm all for increasing productivity and having cheaper cars, but there's a certain point where too much is a bad thing for both the economy and for jobs. The Mk V may not have brought in huge profits from the US, but any surplus that was left over between each year seemed to have sold quite well at most dealerships (at least in my area). I just hope they don't ruin that balance and shoot themselves in the foot.

I think one has to be careful understanding the difference between lowering production costs and the actual quality of the car. I think what VW did here was refine it's production methods for components and car build. This is nothing new, the Japanese have done this for years, trying each year to increase efficiency bit by bit. VW HAS to make money, so kudos to them for turning a profit and giving us something we love to drive.

Thanks for that link btw!

Depending on how it goes and the reviews it gets, I might get a MKVI GTI as well.

:l i like my rabbit too much, the taillights make it so distinctive on the road the mk6 to me looks like a minivan >< but if i were to trade in my car id wait for a special edition like a .:R version or a scriocco if it is indeed coming to north america.

I agree with VDUBBIN on the taillights...One of my fav parts of the car, and they changed it!!! tisk tisk...if they just kept the same tailights, the new car is definitely sweeter.

ya i think it woulda been great to have that in the rabbits here but it may be because of the emissions standards in europe is different, i dunno.

Go to the VW UK site and price one out. The high end is over US$33,000.

It's not a direct translation when it comes to cars. Notice that a GTI in the UK costs over $40k USD if you use standard conversion rates.

I like my tail lights also, even the color red, I won't darken it.
I'm not into the mkvi yet, maybe it will grow on me, but then it must be a gti.

I agree the MKVI TDI sounds intriguing, depending on performance. However, I plan to keep my bunny for a long, long time.

I like it, but I too think I might finally move up to a GTI when the time comes, but my wife wants a Tiguan, so she might get the next new car, gotta be fair right? got to be honest though, if I keep my rabbit and she wants that as her daily after we get rid of her car I might go genesis coupe the 2.0T, I miss rear wheel drive.

:curse:urgh sometimes I question myself if I should have waited a year :curse:

Happy with MKV though cause it does look sexier than MKVI, especially rear end :)

So with the production time getting shorter does anyone think this will effect the quality? just worries me like they might be "rushing" the production. Just my thoughts

Just because you hear it is cheaper to make doesn't mean it is an inferior product. They have made the assembly more efficient and are using more of the same parts between models. Less parts to make equals less expensive to make the parts you need...

I think the R is no longer going to be produced. My guess is cause its not being made in manual. Who wants to buy an "sti killer" when your pushin buttons...might as well play gran turismo . Poor R, such a beauty she was.
