: Should I email them this?
nyroshan 12-25-2008, 06:54 PM So I'm gonna try and get myself a rabbit, hopefully before the year is over, if not, in January. Should I email the dealerships nearby my house this? And I mean exactly this right here:
To whom it may concern,
I am interested in purchasing a 2009 rabbit from your dealership, and would like to compare prices against other dealers. I wish to know whether you can offer me a 2 door, 5 speed manual rabbit preferably in black, else in gray, for 17,000 out the door. If not, what is your closest offer?
Thank you

Anything else I should add? I don't know what fees/taxes are associated with the car which is why I said 17000 otd. Should I ask for a lower price, higher or ask them this exact same thing? Thanks for your help in advance. There's nearly 4 vw dealerships within 50 miles of my place so I'm gonna email all of them this as long as a few people say it's good.
djwhiplash2001 12-25-2008, 07:05 PM I wouldn't name a price in your opening. Just ask what how motivated they are to sell, what their best price is, what fees and taxes will be added, and what their final OTD price will be.

ooh ok. what would a good price be if i didn't want any extra options?
djwhiplash2001 12-25-2008, 07:18 PM Depends on taxes and such, 17k seems fair OTD. Check www.edmunds.com for info on what MSRP is, what invoice is, and what people in your area tend to pay.
tibimakai 12-25-2008, 09:39 PM include in the e-mail that you are delivering this e-mail to all the dealerships in your area and who will give you the best deal for you that dealership will earn your business. also give them a close deadline. send it next Monday and tell them that you want to buy it on Wednesday.
ultralowincome 12-26-2008, 01:02 AM Don't disclose what you're willing to pay monthly, lease, or trade-in until they've given you've agreed on a price. What city do you live in? Sometimes there are regional rebates... don't be a sucker when they ask you "how much are you looking to spend?" Let the dealers quote you first...

I live in Houston, TX. As far as I understand the current promotion for interest rate for 3 years is 3.9%. My parents are telling me to look into a civic or corolla because one of them (can't remember which) has 0%. There is no way in hell I'm gonna get a corolla, and as far as civics go, unless it's an SI it's slow, and if I can afford an SI, I can afford a GTI  So I guess I might put down somewhere around 2k to 5k (depends on how much my parents may help me out. i'm a full time college student and only work part time). yeah....
nyroshan 12-26-2008, 12:25 PM To Whom It May Concern,
I was hoping that you were motivated to sell me a 2009 VW Rabbit. Manual transmission, 2 door, with an exterior color either in black or dark gray are the only preferences I have. What is your best price for the vehicle and what other fees and taxes will be added? I was hoping for someone to give me an out the door price. I will be emailing this to all of the VW dealerships within 50 miles, and the dealership giving me the best deal gets my business. Please email me a response soon since I wish to purchase by this Tuesday.
Thank You

Too corny?
djwhiplash2001 12-26-2008, 01:12 PM I'd say 'include an out the door price' rather than asking if they could maybe give it to you :p. Be firm but kind.
nyroshan 12-26-2008, 03:53 PM I can't believe it but one of the recommended salesman on the forum(Jeff Brown at Archer VW) has offered me something amazing. 2 door 5 speed United Gray with an armrest for 14,499 and 15.6k out the door!!! Gonna jump on it as soon as my parents get back home (they're helping with the down payment)
nyroshan 12-26-2008, 06:23 PM Man I was test driving it on the lot, but since I'm used to the ****ty old 95 corolla, the clutch was so much for softer and I accidentally stalled lol.
ultralowincome 12-26-2008, 08:16 PM haha they can't charge you more for stalling the car. I test drove a Scion before deciding on a Rabbit and they were trying to sell me a a Carolla or a Camry too. I was like: Do I look 35 years old and have two kids? Not to mention they were 10k above my budget, they're so cute when they try so hard.
Congrats on the car. Guess you didn't even have to haggle or compare prices with other dealers... good deal.

Yeah I currently drive my dads 04 camry, and my beater 95 corolla. The 04 camry wasn't bad but I mean come on, it's a camry. Certainly gonna be happy with the rabbit.:Ciao:
All the haggling and comparing was done through one simple thing: emailing all the vw dealerships. There was one dealership that said they'd give me 500 bucks less than what others are offering as their best deal, but I've read alot about this particular salesman at archer vw so I think I'm gonna stick with him. Also highly doubt they'd be able to get me a rabbit for 15,100 OTD.:p
nyroshan 12-28-2008, 12:39 AM Bought the car. omg it's so freakin awesome. i love it. i kept reading about it and inquired but man, to actually drive one around is absolutely amazing.
